Distinguished Speakers Include Texas Lt. Governor Dewhurst and Welcome Wilson Sr., Chairman of the GSL Welcome Group, to Celebrate Commencement of Construction
Austin, Texas – April 8, 2014 – Data Foundry, a leading provider of data center colocation and disaster recovery services, announced today that it is hosting a groundbreaking ceremony on April 10th, 2014. The ceremony will be held at 660 Greens Parkway, the site of Data Foundry’s newly planned Houston 2 data center, a 350,000 square foot purpose-built data center being constructed in North Houston’s Greens Crossing district. Designed as a state-of-the-art data center from the ground up, Houston 2 will support both the demand and growth of Data Foundry’s existing Houston client base as well as provide a choice for premium data center services to companies within the greater Houston metro area.
Houston 2 will be Data Foundry’s second and largest Houston data center and will reside on an 18 acre tract the company purchased in 2013. With capabilities for 60 megawatts of power, the facility will have a chilled water-cooling system, a 185mph wind rated structure and will offer carrier neutral network access to more than 10 On-Net fiber carriers. Data Foundry will continue to operate its Houston 1 data center, which is located in the Galleria/West Loop area.
Data Foundry also owns and operates two data centers in Austin and offers a suite of global colocation services in data centers located in Ashburn, VA, Los Angeles, Amsterdam and Hong Kong. Texas 1, Data Foundry’s flagship data center in Austin, was the first purpose-built, carrier-neutral data center ever constructed in the Central Texas region. Central Texas’ strength as a technology hub and the demand for premium data center services available in Texas 1 have resulted in strong business growth and momentum for the company.
“A number of our Houston-based customers have been asking for us to construct a Texas 1 style facility in Houston,” said Edward Henigin, CTO at Data Foundry. “We are excited to mark the beginning of construction of Houston 2 and we expect to have this facility fully operational by the first quarter of next year.”
The flexible design of Houston 2 will support customers from a single cabinet up to multi-megawatt deployments. Houston 2 offers customers access to 60,000 square feet of dedicated office space for disaster recovery or other onsite needs for their mission critical personnel. Data Foundry will also offer its full suite of services, including Virtual Private Data Centers, Monitoring, DDoS Mitigation, Virtual Hands, Bandwidth, as well as Private Network Services.
“As a long-time Data Foundry customer we are looking forward to the new Houston data center,” said David Dang, CIO, Primeway Credit Union. “Data Foundry has proven to be a valuable data center operator and true partner in helping us ensure the performance and availability of our IT infrastructure. In particular, their services have helped supplement our staff and provide valuable expertise and support 24/7/365.”
Design of the new data center was done by Corgan, a global architecture, design, planning and consulting firm. kW Engineering, an engineering/architecture, program management and technology consulting firm specializing in the mission-critical industry, is providing engineering services for the project. The facility is being built by Holder Construction Company, a leading data center builder across Texas and the USA.
Houston 2 will be fully commissioned and ready for customer deployments in the 1st quarter of 2015. For more information please visit: //www.datafoundry.com.
